Sandy Mendes from Snohomish, WA

My name is Sandy Mendes and I live in Snohomish, Washington. I work in a hospital. I never used to be able to enjoy anything because I was so self-conscious about my weight. I joined a multitude of gyms and exercise programs and got all the exercise videos. I'd lose 10 lbs. with no problem, but I'd gain back 12. I was on a huge yo-yo and just kept getting bigger every time. I'm so glad that's over' I'm not at all worried it's ever going to happen again. Thanks to Positive Changes, I exceeded my goal of 35 lbs. and lost 67 lbs. in 6 months. I went from a size 18 to a size 6. If I knew then what I know now, I would have paid 5 times as much as I did for my program. It was so easy! I no longer use food as part of my entertainment, gratification or satisfaction. I was overweight for 15 years, but grossly overweight for 7. I was really embarrassed about my weight. It's difficult to find pictures of me when I was overweight because I avoided them like the plague. I didn't want to go anywhere or do anything because I knew I looked terrible, and therefore I felt terrible about myself. On my days off I wouldn't even get dressed. I'd stay home the entire weekend and watch TV and stuff my face, because I didn't want to go anywhere. I avoided anything that involved any kind of exercise. I absolutely felt out of control. I drank 8-12 cans of pop every day' more on the weekends. It would have taken a miracle for me not to want a cola. I'd binge-eat. If I wanted barbequed chicken wings, I wouldn't just get a box of chicken wings. I'd buy a whole bag of wings and eat every one of them. If I wanted a donut, I just didn't buy a donut. I'd buy a dozen donuts and eat them all.

My cholesterol was through the roof' 300 plus' so my doctor sent me to a nutritionist. I lost 20 lbs. and promptly gained back 25. My cholesterol didn't change at all. I'd buy 12-month memberships at fitness clubs and quit going after the first couple of times because I looked so bad with everything jiggling around. I took over-the-counter diet suppressants. I did a national diet chain, the low-carb diet, and the shakes and bars. Nothing worked. I first heard about Positive Changes when I noticed that my boss and another director at work were both losing weight. I got the information from them and called that day. I figured, 'If it's working for them, it'll work for me. The free evaluation was informative and helped answer a lot of questions before I even asked them. There was no sales pressure, but I signed up right away.

My weight loss seemed effortless, and I noticed changes immediately. I woke up the morning after my first session and realized I didn't even want a pop. I was sold! I still have a case and half of diet cola sitting in my garage, and it doesn't tempt me in the least. I'm absolutely 100% in control. I think of food as what my body needs instead of what my mouth wants. It's not something I crave. I no longer snack or binge, and I drink only water. I buy fresh, whole, alive foods. I love eating good foods, and I eat way less and enjoy it much more. I'm much more active. I have a lot more energy and want to get out and do more. I set my goal at losing 35 lbs. because that seemed like tremendous amount to me. When I reached the 35-lb. mark, I decided, 'Hey, that was so easy, let's get back to a size 8!

I'm way healthier. I went to my doctor, and he was flabbergasted. He wanted to know what I did. My cholesterol and blood pressure have gone way down. I was taking 7 different prescriptions and now I only take one. That saves me money. I feel more physically comfortable. I own a three-story condo, and my bedroom is on the third floor. I used to be so overweight that I could hardly make it up and down the stairs. I had a lot of pain in my knee. Since I've lost the weight, I jog up and down the stairs and have no pain. I just feel so much better!

My son was awestruck by my weight loss. I get a lot of compliments every day. Some people tell me, 'Don't lose any more weight. Everybody's just thrilled. I even find I make better use of my time. I no longer sit around at home. I'm out doing stuff everyday' like shopping. Shopping is cool now because I can shop for normal sizes. Since I'm done losing weight, I'm working on a new wardrobe. That's going to be fun. I bought a swimming suit for the first time in 20 years and I'm going to wear it in Hawaii. I'm wearing shorts. I haven't worn shorts in 15 years, so that's a miracle, honey!

I feel much more calm. Hypnosis helped my stress levels and the way I deal with confrontation. I no longer have anxiety. The biggest problem I had when I was overweight was that I didn't like me. I didn't like the way I looked and I didn't like the way I felt about myself as a person. I didn't have respect for myself, so I was angry and frustrated. I no longer feel that. After I was in the program for two months, people would come to me and say, 'You seem so happy and in control and self-assured. What are you doing? I absolutely, absolutely feel good about myself. I feel good about the way my body feels and the way it functions. I have a lot more self-confidence. I rock! At the same time, I don't feel like I've done that much. I don't have to deprive myself. I just let the process work.

You know what's good about this? It's not a diet. Just being able to say, 'I'm not dieting, takes away a lot of the stress. I can choose to eat or not eat anything I want, and I choose to eat things that are healthy for me. Before my program I felt and looked 87 years old. Now I feel 20 years younger than I am and look at least 10 years younger. I feel like the clock has been turned back. I have a whole new lease on life' this is my second chance and I'm so excited about it. What's the point of life if you're not enjoying it? I'm enjoying life. I know a lot of people who are going to Positive Changes, and I don't know anybody who it's not working for. I feel so good about this process that I'm encouraging everyone to go to Positive Changes. If I had a loudspeaker, I'd stand up on the skyscrapers and tell everybody to try this.
