Janice Goldsworthy from Spokane, Washington

My name is Janice Goldsworthy. I'm a pharmaceutical buyer from Spokane, Washington. My boyfriend's name is Pete, and we've been together for 10 years. I wasn't overweight when I was younger, but about fifteen years ago I just started to gain weight. It snuck up on me. I tried to lose weight with diet pills, but they never worked. I'd lose 5 lbs. and gain back 6 or 7. Then I lost 33 lbs. in four months with Positive Changes' weight-loss program. I lost 5 inches from my waist; I used to wear a size 14 pant and now I wear an 8. Positive Changes was definitely a smart investment. I'd do it again in a minute and pay more money. It's a truly motivational program. I learned a lot, I had a good time and the end result was that I reached my goal. It feels good!

I gained about 5 lbs. a year. If you gain a few pounds a year, it doesn't seem like as big a deal as if you'd gained 35 lbs. at once. It sneaks up on you. You settle into buying one size larger, until, all of the sudden, you realize what's happened. I never realized I was heavy. I've always been an athletic person; I was just heavier each year. I've always liked to eat out. On Sunday's I'd get up and go to a fast food place for breakfast, and sometimes I'd go to three fast food places in any one day. I always ate a lot of food. I was one of those people who ate everything left on everybody else's plate, and it was just something everybody expected me to do. I wasn't aware of my habits. You don't realize you are that way until you stop and think about it. It just seemed natural.

I basically tried to lose weight with whatever pill was available at GNC at the time. You know, pills that promise you'll burn fat while you sleep. They promise you a miracle, saying you don't have to do anything or change anything' you're just going to lose weight. The magic bullet. I'd be fine for a couple of days, but my eating habits were so bad that the pills didn't help any longer than that. Then I saw the ad for Positive Changes. I quit smoking with hypnosis years ago, so I thought it would work for weight loss. The free evaluation was exciting. Everybody at Positive Changes is so'¦positive! Looking back, it was worth the cost. I'd have spent way more money than that to get my results. It paid for itself right off the bat. When you're spending $8-$9 a day to buy a bunch of bad food for lunch, and all the sudden you're making a salad with some fish and spending $7 or $8 to eat lunch all week, it's truly amazing how much money you save. I easily saved the cost of my program in my first three months there.

I noticed changes immediately. I lost weight right off' 2 or 3 lbs. my first week' and felt better right away. Hypnosis helped me eliminate my bad eating habits. Sometimes I'd think about eating something and then think, 'Nothing tastes as good as slim feels. It also helps you change what you want to eat. I eat less and I eat differently. The very first time I went to a session, I gave up coffee, pop and potatoes. I started drinking water all day. For lunch, I now eat a salad with fish instead of burgers, nachos or pizza. I'd be at the grocery store and start thinking about buying vegetables and '˜alive' foods. I'd never thought that way before. Even if I have to go to a burger place, I still make better choices. I never thought I'd be like that. I started eating fish, even though I thought I never would. I work at a hospital that has a huge cafeteria. The whole time I've worked there, the burger bar has been my favorite. I haven't gone to burger bar one day since I started my program. It's not because I can't have it. If I wanted it, I'd eat it. But I want that fish!

I definitely feel more in control. When I eat, it's easy to make the right choice. Recently, Pete and I went out to some fast food place because we were in a hurry, and afterwards we both said, 'That tasted terrible. I don't even want it anymore. I definitely feel more physically comfortable. I have back problems, so being heavy wasn't doing my back any good. I haven't had any back trouble since I lost the weight. I exercise. That was a big thing for me, but now I go to a gym three times a week, I bike, I walk my dog, and I finally started the golf lessons I'd been wanting for years. I've watched the Bloomsday race in the past, but I'm planning on going and running in it next year. I wouldn't have done all that before Positive Changes. I also make better use of my time. At the beginning, I said, 'I could never fit this in. I just don't have time to listen to my personal sessions. I had a million excuses. Now I'm able to find time to do so much more than before.

My family and friends are really happy. I know I'm skinnier, but I don't really think about it. When you see people, though, and they're like, 'You lost so much weight! you know you look different. I'm 46 now, and I look better than I did before. I've bought a new wardrobe. I lost weight in the winter, so I had to buy some new pants right off. I went into summer and had to buy new underwear, bras, belts. You don't buy that kind of stuff every year. I can wear a two-piece bathing suit' I'd never worn that kind of swimsuit in front of people before!

I just feel better about myself now. I've always been a confident person, but I have even more confidence. I'm definitely proud of my accomplishment. The program made it easy, but I still had to put in some effort. I give myself 5% of the credit for going, but there's just no way I ever would have done it if I hadn't gone there. I changed my lifestyle. You think it's going to be hard and difficult but, once you go through the Positive Changes program, you find it's easy. If you make that commitment, you will lose weight. I'm satisfied with my results. With all these changes, I don't think I'll ever gain my weight back. It isn't just the weight loss; it all goes together. I'm going to be a healthier person, and that's going to be a lot better for me as I get older.

I'd recommend Positive Changes to everybody, for all kinds of stuff. It's just a positive, helpful place. You feel much more relaxed. It's definitely safe, because you're in control of what you do all the time. Hypnosis works. I've always been a big believer that the mind can do almost anything; it's just in how you use it. You have to go there and follow the program. I think the only reason anybody might go there and not achieve their goals is' if they don't go! If you're considering going to Positive Changes, you should do it. If you want to lose the weight or you want to quit smoking, you can. If you go and follow the program and apply yourself to it, you will meet your goals.

* By following our program, our clients lost more than 4 lbs. on average in their first 3 weeks.
