My name is Patricia Harvey and I'm a hospital office worker from Auburn, Washington. I felt embarrassed about my weight all the time. If I went to a restaurant or the cafeteria at work, I always felt people were looking at my plate and thinking, "She doesn't need to eat that." It's a horrible feeling. I was stuffed into a size 18, and felt like I was going to explode. I tried weight-loss programs that didn't work or would only work for so long, but I'd always quit before I reached my goal. I didn't have the willpower to stick to it. Then I lost 85 lbs. in 7 months with Positive Changes, and now I'm a size 8! This is the first time I actually set a goal and met it, because hypnosis gave me control over making choices. Positive Changes was definitely a good investment. I was overweight about 40 of my 50 years. I really was out of control. Portions were a problem and I always went back for second helpings. I wouldn't be satisfied with just a spoonful of something' I'd have to have 3 or 4 spoonfuls. I just wasn't able to stop all those things I knew were bad for me. I hadn't seen my wrists and ankles in what seemed like forever and I didn't wear rings because my hands were so swollen and puffy. I just felt miserable. The last couple of years were the worst because I had an injury and wasn't able to exercise. I was already overweight, but I packed on another 20 lbs. I was heavier than I'd ever been. Even when the doctor gave me the green light to exercise, I knew I needed to do more. I needed help.
I tried a national diet chain and dropped out of that 2 or 3 times. I tried shakes and bars. I bought a bunch of things like you see ads for on TV, the ones that promise, 'Take 2 pills 30 minutes before meals and you'll drop all these pounds. I was never successful at any of these things for very long. One of the things that made me notice the Positive Changes ad in the newspaper was the fact that someone I knew had successfully used hypnosis to stop smoking. I walked around with the Positive Changes ad in my purse for about a month before I actually called, but when I went in for the evaluation, my evaluator was so nice. I definitely felt the fee was reasonable. I've spent more and gotten a lot less.
I was a little bit skeptical before trying hypnosis. Weight loss has become a major industry nowadays and you hear everybody's claim that theirs is the method that will solve your problems forever. With Positive Changes, everything worked! When I went back for my first hypnosis session, the hypnotist was very nice and spent a lot of time answering my questions. The first day I left there, I went home and wanted lettuce, tomato and cottage cheese for lunch. I started eating only 3 meals a day and went months before I had a snack between meals.
Being in control is amazing. One day I decided I wanted a cookie. I got the cookie halfway to my mouth and said, "No, I don't really want that", and put it back. I never could have done that before. The only things I take seconds of are salads or vegetables, and I don't do that very often. I enjoy healthy foods as much as I used to enjoy unhealthy foods. In fact, I definitely eat less and enjoy it more. It kind of became a joke with my husband and I, because when I'd say, 'I'm just starving, he would say, 'Oh, you haven't been hungry for months! Within 3 weeks I'd lost over 20 lbs. and my weight loss was continuous after that. I was so happy the day I got on the scale and saw I'd reached my goal, I started dancing around the house. The cats thought I was crazy!
I exercise every day now. When the weather is nice I walk outside every day, and I bought a treadmill so I could keep working out during the winter. I feel more physically comfortable. I can bend over and tie my shoes, which used to make me short of breath, and I can run up and down the stairs. I feel in control now. I make better use of my time because I have so much more energy. I get a lot more done in a shorter amount of time. My leisure time is also more enjoyable because I have more energy to do the things I want to do. When I sit down, I can enjoy myself because I don't sit there thinking about what I shouldn't eat.
I went to my doctor before trying hypnosis because I wanted to discuss it with her and see if she knew anybody who had done it. My doctor said she thought it might be good for me, but she wanted me to check in again in a month to see how I was doing. I saw her twice while I was in the program and she was thrilled. I've had a problem with acid reflux for over 30 years, and I used to use antacids or medications religiously several times a day. My acid reflux is gone. After I'd been with Positive Changes about a month, I realized I hadn't needed the antacid or the medication. It's just wonderful. My life, just in that area, has changed dramatically.
Shopping is always fun. I didn't buy a lot during my program because, as my size went down, clothes would become too big so quickly. Now I've started buying a new wardrobe. Losing weight has given me much more confidence. It feels nice. I didn't realize how I'd let that weight color everything I did. I never wanted to be the center of attention. It's hard for me to find pictures of what I looked like then, because I was always the one behind the camera. I'd always avoided the mirror. I looked to see if my face was clear and if there were spots on my clothes. That's about it. Now I can't stop looking at me because I still can't believe it!
My family has been very supportive. Everybody is like, 'Oh my gosh! When I walked into my sister's house at Thanksgiving and my brother-in-law answered the door, he said, 'Where's the rest of you? One person who saw my Christmas card picture hadn't seen me in a couple of years, and she asked if my husband had gotten a new wife. Nope'¦not a new wife, just a thinner, healthier one!
I sure couldn't have done this without Positive Changes. I used to be an emotional eater. I once let things stress me out very badly, but Positive Changes de-stressed my life. I feel good about myself. I'm proud of my accomplishment and hope I can use what I learned at Positive Changes to help other people. I recommend Positive Changes to others because hypnosis is absolutely safe and it works. I feel comfortable I can maintain this lifestyle.
