My name is Roxy Banta. I live in Sun Lakes, Arizona. Thanks to Positive Changes I have lost 62 pounds of unwanted weight forever. It took me about ten months to lose my weight and I lost at a steady average of three pounds per week. I have really noticed a difference in my entire body. My BMI used to be at the obese level and it is now in the normal range.
I had been uncomfortable with my weight for a long time. I had been on Weight Watchers and it took me a year to lose thirty pounds. Then I hit a plateau. After that life's stresses started to sabotage my limited success. My mother started having health issues that required a lot of my time and attention. It took all my focus before she passed away. It was just too hard to stick a “diet” during that stressful time and I gained all that weight back. Not to mention my blood pressure soared and I just plain wasn't taking care of myself. All I was doing was eating comfort food and eating out all the time due to what was going on in my life. Taking care of my mother made me realize how being overweight and not taking care of yourself can do real harm to your body now and in the future. That inspired me to make a change and start taking care of myself. I knew I had to do something and get control of the situation. I didn't want to experience the same health problems my mother was experiencing. I have had a weight problem since I was a kid. I remember my mother putting me on the original Weight Watchers program when I was in junior high. As a teenager I would skip meals and just drink diet soda. In my 20s and 30s that didn't work anymore. The willpower just wasn't there anymore. I tried Slim Fast and it took forever to lose any weight with that; and of course I gained the weight back. Now I realize those diets weren't realistic because at some point you have to learn to eat real food unless you plan to just drink diet shakes all the time. As I said, I did Weight Watchers again as an adult. At Weight Watchers I did learn good habits, but I found I couldn't stick to the program when I would eat out. I just wasn't eating mindfully.
Being overweight was hard. A lot of things would go through my mind. I couldn't shop where I wanted to shop for clothes. I was limited in the choices I had. I had always loved fashion and the latest styles and I couldn't wear those things. My health was suffering. My blood pressure and cholesterol were getting higher and it was concerning to me. I knew I had to change my life.
I am on disability right now because I suffer from Fibromyalgia. One of the medications that I take to control the pain and pressure points is Cymbalta, which has a side effect of dulling appetite. That was useful when I was on Weight Watchers, but unfortunately the other thing it does is dulls the fact that I was full when I was eating. If I wasn't paying attention to what I was eating and being mindful of what was going in my mouth I would overeat.
I live about a block away from another person who had come to Positive Changes. Her name is Joyce Spartonos. You might have read her testimonial at some point because she had great success on her program at Positive Changes. I would see her a lot and I realized how much she had changed when she lost 82 pounds. I started watching what she did, how could she possibly have done it? I've failed so many times? Then I realized, she wasn't on a diet! Her eating habits had changed. We would be at the same lunches and activities and while everyone around her was ordering french fries and burgers, she was ordering healthy foods and enjoying herself just as much as anyone else. When I first came into the center I was impressed by how easy going the staff was. There was no pressure. All my questions were answered and my evaluator explained all about hypnosis and how it works to me. It all made sense to me and it was logical. I felt like the program was finally what I was looking for. I was also impressed that Positive Changes uses the information that's already out there. There are no weird diets or suggestions that they ask you to go on. I started noticing changes early on in my program and became more and more convinced that this program would work for me.
My husband and I go to a trivia club. He's usually much better at it than I am. At one competition, the team he was on won both sessions and the prize was a very large candy bar. So he came home with two large candy bars. Those candy bars stayed in the refrigerator and I never touched them. It never even bothered me that they were there. That's when I really knew the program was working for me. In the past my husband would have expected that I would have eaten those candy bars by the time he got home from work the next day. But, nope. They stayed in that fridge and I never wanted them. It was such an incredible feeling of finally control. I also noticed was my shopping habits changed. I started noticing that I was skipping the bakery section completely. I wasn't interested in those foods. There was no inner struggle. It was just food that I no longer needed and it was easy to just walk past it. It's calming to me to have that control over food and to let go of the worry of ever gaining my weight back. I don't even sample the food that they have at Costco anymore. My reaction to those foods has completely changed. I don't miss those foods at all. My husband and I used to go out for ice cream. That's not something we do anymore either and we don't miss it
With Positive Changes for the first time I'm in control. It feels natural. It's easy. In the beginning it was just amazing to me, especially during the first month or so on the program. My husband was even losing weight. That's because I realized how often I was going to the refrigerator and getting snacks for the both of us. He started losing weight because I wasn't constantly bringing food to him when I was eating. Hypnosis put me in control of that behavior. I didn't feel the need to snack constantly all the time. I felt positive about what I was doing. I never felt the diet deprivation. I was giving my body quality fuel and I finally was getting that message. I was craving the good foods instead of the unhealthy foods. I eat more fresh and alive foods than I ever have and I no longer end up throwing out my produce because it sat too long without getting eaten.
I sleep better at night. That's an extra benefit that I didn't expect. My doctor had been trying to improve my sleep pattern with medication, but the medications I've tried have not worked well for me. Hypnosis has helped me to fall asleep much more easily. Another health benefits that I've noticed since starting my program at Positive Changes are that I have been able to go off my blood pressure medication. I think that was a combination of the relaxation and weight loss as well as some of the stress in my life lessening. In January, before I started with Positive Changes, my cholesterol was 280. In June my cholesterol had dropped to 177. I'm happy with the numbers my doctor is reporting to me, and so are they!
Several people have come up to me and asked if I was okay. They were actually concerned that I was losing weight. Other people have really been complimentary. I love hearing how gorgeous I look now. It's nice to get compliments. During my program, I had one neighbor who offered to give me some clothes that no longer fit her, because replacing a wardrobe several times can get expensive. Some of the clothes were labeled extra-large and some were labeled large. I really didn't think the larges would fit me. I looked at a particular pair of shorts that were a size 12. I didn't believe that I would ever fit into those shorts. She pressed the clothes on me. She was sure I was going to get to a point that I would fit into them. She was right. I'm so glad she was right. Now I have some things that I'm donating to other people as well. I know that I have larger sizes that I'll never need to use again.
My husband really likes the changes I've made. He's always been health conscious. He likes the idea of portion sizes and he's really enjoying the fresh fruits and vegetables that are in the house now. He loves the healthy meals I prepare and is picking up on my healthy habits as well. He has been totally supportive and loves to compliment me. I remember I was in the kitchen at the counter preparing some food. He walked around the corner and slapped me on the rear and had to do a double take when he realized that it was now firm and smaller than it had been in a very long time. It's nice that we're enjoying being healthy together.
It's so much of a pleasure to go to my closet and know my clothes all fit and that I can wear what I want--and that I can wear a belt again. I don't mind showing off my waist. In fact, I went to a holiday party and for the first time in my life I wore a fitted dress! It's so fun to show off my figure again.
I truly believe losing weight has given me a great confidence boost. I just feel more comfortable within my own skin. I've never been shy but I just feel great about who I am now. The biggest benefit I've received from Positive Changes Hypnosis is gaining my health back--lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, getting off medications and reducing others. That means a great deal to me. And it's saving me money because I'm going off or reducing so many medications. It's really gratifying to me. Looking great? When I started my program I was wearing a size 2X and now I easily wear a 10/12. It is so fun to walk into a store now! Just recently I decided I needed some new clothes, usually I dreaded shopping, I was extremely excited when I went to buy something and the label read SMALL!! I've never worn a size small! I was so excited. I had to tell everyone about that. I even readjusted my original weight loss goal when I realized I was actually losing weight and how easy it was for me to continue to steadily lose weight. When I go to an event food is no longer center stage. Now I think about the people and the activities and the fun I'm going to be sharing in. It doesn't really matter to me what food is going to be there. It's just not something I look forward to. I look forward to the people that I'm going to be spending time with.
