My name is Jerry Isbell. I live in Gahanna, Ohio and I am a pilot. Since joining Positive Changes Hypnosis I have lost an amazing 40 pounds in about 6 months and I have lost 4 inches from my waist. I'm so excited about my weight loss. It's gone forever. It's never going to come back! I've learned, finally, how to lose weight and keep it off permanently thanks to my program at Positive Changes.
I had been overweight for about thirty years. Nobody ever told me I was overweight and needed to drop the pounds, but I knew. To me, I was fat and uncomfortable. I had been a runner all my life, but then my knees went bad and I have a hip that gives me trouble. Now that I've lost the 40 pounds, my knees don't hurt anymore. I haven't had my hip complain for a long time. I lost weight for me, no one else. No matter what anyone else said about my weight, I knew that it was a problem. Now I'm happy.
Before Positive Changes, my eating habits were poor. I made poor choices. I just didn't know that they were poor at the time. I ate the way I grew up eating. My mother owned a restaurant, so I worked my way through high school working for her. I ate restaurant food. Everyone was eating hamburgers, steak and eggs, roast beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy and fried chicken. I thought that's the way you were supposed to eat.
Once I was out on my own and became a pilot, my day consisted of cereal in the mornings and at lunch I ate whatever I could get. My diet was all over the place. Sometimes I was on the plane and I would get something from a flight attendant and eat whatever the passengers were. In the afternoons for a snack it was the same thing. In the evenings, if I was traveling late, it was whatever I could find. Sometimes it was pretzels and a bag of M&M's for dinner. I didn't pay attention to calories or fat. If I was home I would eat soup or a sandwich or whatever I had in the house. There wasn't much balance even when I thought I was eating healthy. I have learned that I wasn't balanced because I wasn't paying attention to the amounts of sugar or fat in the food. I also had a habit of eating because it was a certain time of day, whether I was hungry or not. "It's breakfast time. Let's eat." "It's dinner time. Let's eat." I thought that's what I was supposed to do.
I started noticing changes in my life within the first month of my program. I had initially set a goal of losing about 15 pounds. When I lost 5 pounds I couldn't believe it and after that first 5 pounds I was like, "I'm already 1/3 of the way there." I was so happy. The longer I attended Positive Changes, the more I learned. Things just kept getting better and better and I kept setting the bar higher for my goal. It fit me and my life and as a result, I ended up losing more than double what my goal was.
When I started, losing 40 pounds was beyond my comprehension. I would never have believed I could do that. I learned how wrong I was. My weight loss was a learning process but now it's so easy. Each week I learned something new. It was exciting. The more I learned, the more I understood how much I didn't know before. It was an adventure to come in each week and learn something, apply it and see the changes time after time.
I used to crave chips and pretzels, but as I went through my program at Positive Changes those cravings have diminished. I have learned to eat healthy snacks to replace the chips and pretzels. It just worked for me. I always carry healthy snacks with me now on the plane and I am able to walk past things that may have been tempting to me before. I still eat pasta and those types of things, but I save them for special occasions and I don't feel deprived.
I have to admit, I was unsure about Positive Changes at first. I mean hypnosis? I had a preconceived notion of what hypnosis was; but it was nothing like I expected. I was taught how the brain really works. I know now that when they say hypnosis, they don't mean the funny stuff you see in movies. They mean learning how to control your actions using the power of your mind. And the best part is that it really works!
I heard about Positive Changes in the newspaper. I actually saw several ads. I cut one of them out more than a year ago, had it on my desk and then lost it. Then I saw another ad, cut that one out and put it on my desk and it sat there. Finally, one day something told me to just call. I made an appointment, went in for my free consultation and when I walked through the door for the first time the staff was very friendly. They made me feel comfortable. There was no sales pressure. Everything was explained to me thoroughly and all of my questions were answered. I was even tested to see if hypnosis was right for me before I could even consider a program. Before coming to Positive Changes I had tried to lose weight with other methods. There were short periods of time where I would lose a little weight and be happy about it, but it would always come back. I had tried just about any diet that you can think of. I travel a lot, so I had to do diets that I could be in control of, but they were diets where I had to count calories or watch my carbs and none of them would work permanently. There would be a temporary dip in my weight and then I would go on a trip and come back and be right back where I started.
Since coming to Positive Changes I am very careful to eat a balanced diet. Now I understand what I have been taught about eating a balanced meal. I understand how important protein is. I understand the importance of eating smaller meals throughout the day. All of those things are my new routine and it's been so easy. I have learned that if I slip up and have a bad meal, I don't just throw everything away. I get right back to eating healthy at my next meal. I've also learned that if I'm not hungry, I don't need to eat. I don't eat just because it's "time". That's my routine now. As an added benefit because of what I've learned at Positive Changes, my wife has lost almost 20 pounds just by listening to what I've learned. We're learning together and helping each other to become healthier.
Some people are skeptical of the choices I make. They don't think I'll be able to maintain my healthy lifestyle, but I know better. I can eat out anywhere and I have learned to build my meals around what I've learned from Positive Changes Hypnosis. I am satisfied with what I eat. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. I enjoy everything I eat. It's what I want and I can eat less and enjoy my food more because I've learned how to taste it and make the enjoyment last.
As far as exercise, I walk as much as I can. Since I travel so much, I have to be creative in my exercise. I take stairs whenever I can for as long as I can. I walk in whatever city I happen to be in and explore it instead of sitting in a hotel room. If I'm home, I always find something to keep me occupied and moving.
I was able to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol in addition to losing weight thanks to Positive Changes. Before my program, my blood pressure was at the FAA maximum. I had lived with that for years. It never went above that level but it was higher than it should've been. My cholesterol was higher than it should have been too. I have to have three physicals a year with the FAA and my doctor is now very happy with my results.
Hypnosis has also helped me in my travels. Being a pilot I can fly through 8 different time zones in a day. Sometimes it's hard to sleep when my body is telling me its morning at home. Thanks to hypnosis I am now able to fall asleep easily and get a good deep sleep that I need so as to do my job well.
I am very confident that I've lost my weight for good. It's not a problem. I have more confidence in my life. Anytime you can do something and do it well and be as successful as I have been with this program is a tremendous reward.
