My name is Joe Presti. I'm a manufacturing plant supervisor from Brightwaters, New York. I've been married 21 years and have 2 teenage children. I was embarrassed by my weight my whole adult life. I tried all kinds of diets, but nothing worked. Then I stopped dieting and lost 45 lbs. in 4-1/2 months. I lost an amazing 4 inches from my waist. I didn't deprive myself. In fact, I feel empowered! When I was overweight, I always had seconds or ordered the biggest meal on the menu, and there were never any leftovers. I ate a triple portion of cereal and 6 cups of coffee for breakfast. In the morning I would munch on snack cakes and coffee. I snacked after dinner until I went to bed. I knew I was headed toward health problems, but I felt out of control and frustrated. I felt powerless. When I went to family functions I wouldn't get in the pool because I didn't want people to see me wearing a bathing suit. I had high cholesterol and took a medication that didn't really work. It gave me chest pains. I ended up in the hospital with two cardiologists trying to convince me I needed heart surgery. It was stressful, to say the least! I decided I didn't want to put myself in that position again. I tried many methods to lose my weight but only had short-term success. I did the low-carb and low-fat diets. Nothing worked. I would return to my old habits and my weight would come right back.

A week after starting my program, I went out to dinner and ordered a salad and some grilled chicken instead of my usual large meal. I went home with half of it. I enjoy my leisure time more. I have no problem wearing my bathing suit and jumping in the pool at picnics and I no longer sit on the sidelines of my life. I've set new goals for myself. I want to start running in long distance races. A year ago I would have laughed if anyone told me I'd be doing that. I'm proud of what I've accomplished thanks to my program at Positive Changes. I feel like I've added years to my life instead of taking them away like I did in the past. I no longer have to worry about yo-yo dieting. That's an empowering feeling.
